TEETEE: THEIR SUCCESS STORY

Effie and Teetee were a Jamaican trans and nonbinary couple. In 2021, they fled to Mexico seeking safety, with no help or resources. Apart from the deadly shelter conditions, they were experiencing racist harrassment on the streets of Mexico, and each day was traumatic. They reached out to Iman desperate for help.

Iman urgently got them on a flight to Paris in June, just in time for them to march in LGBT Pride with their sister, Danielle. In recent weeks after arriving, Effie received devastating news that she had cancer, and it was worsening significantly. Despite this news, they were granted asylum status and housing from the state. Effie received chemotherapy from a local hospital, and Teetee cared for her, as well as take french lessons and go to therapy, thanks to Trans Asylias’ support.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Effie passed away in February 2022. With heavy hearts, we raised funds so that Teetee could have a proper funeral for their partner. While Teetee misses Effie every day, they are now learning how live alone in France, learn french, and work to become a lawyer, with the support of their trans sisters, Danielle and Iman.
